I began with a few quick pencil sketches of a dancer as she moved from one position to another. I then took a few poses from my sketches and redrew them, leaving the bodies white and filling the background with watercolour paints. The colours I chose for the background of this image are colours I personally would assosiate with the feeling you get when you dance.

I liked the idea of leaving the body white against the colourful background, it captures what I wanted to portray about the feeling you get when dancing, perfectly - focusing less on the dancer and more on the emotions within them.

I decided to make another painting using water colour for the background and acrylic for the bodies. I chose the colours for the background specifically - if I had to choose a few colours that would match the emotions felt when dancing, these would be the them.

I have only used watercolours a few times before now, so I wanted to find out what other styles you could create using them. By dropping the watercolours onto already wet paper, the colours swirled around each other to create quite a striking effect

I now plan to experiment more with my work, I want to explore different ways of using the paints to create equally as striking effects. I also plan on creating some more absract pieces of work. I believe this, plus a mixture of new mediums and ways of painting, will capture what I want to express about dance through my work quite well.
