This week's talks were from two second year students studying Fine Art at the Royal College of Art in London. They spoke for half an hour each, showed us pictures of their works and explained their ideas to us. They stayed in Sunderland for the following week which gave us chance to meet them properly and talk to them about any inquiries we had.
The first of the two students, Ludvig Gustafsson, made huge wall pieces covered with well known brand names, logos, and images that has caught his interest in the past. I absolutely loved these pieces as they were so colourful, contrasting to the black background behind them, and so immensely huge. Another aspect of his work that I adored was the fact that he traveled around the globe and created these pieces to leave his mark as he passes through the area. He also made a video that was caotic, loud and at times difficult to make out what exactly was going on. This was also interesting to me, his work has inspired me to broaden my horizons and try out new ways of creating art.
The second student, Lucy Mayers mainly made paintings and installations. Her earlier work was rather intriguing to me. The main body of her work however, (again made up of paintings and installations) was what her idea of a Sport's Cafe should be after visiting one herself and being very disappointed. I thought this was a brilliant idea that just goes to show, inspiration can truly come from anywhere!
