Charcoal on Canvas

I wanted to experiment with matching different mediums and surfaces rather than just using paper. I considered charcoal quite a tricky medium to work with as it is easily smudged, but I wondered how it would stick to a primed canvas? I then started drawing; entirely from memory this time. I didn't really have a final image in my head, I just kept adding and taking parts away until it felt right.

The charcoal made interesting marks on the canvas, there wasn't really a way not to smudge it but I think that factor worked well for the image altogether. As the canvas was primed, the charcoal would fall out of the tiny cracks and down the canvas to the table if I knocked it slightly, but I liked this accidental effect also. The scratches came after just to finish the overall feel of the piece.
