Creating Collages

Happy New Year!

Inspired by my research over the Christmas Holidays, I began thinking of new ways I could make strong images without drawing at all. Whilst making some Christmas presents for my sisters I thought collages would be fun to try! So I went out and bought several fashion magazines and got to work. I cut out each page that had images or sayings that intruiged me, then sifted through my chosen pages picking out a starting image then creating an image from there.

As I chose fashion magazines, the images I created took a stab at the media - although I hadn't intentionally meant to do so. But I came to realise when I finished that they are reflections of my opinions of the world today. I think as a collection they raise a question about what is true happines? Do big brands and media really mean that much to people?

I really enjoyed creating collages, but they do take a while to make; or maybe I'm just being too picky again!
